April 2013 is Harvard’s Global Month of Service: “Harvard Serves” Volunteer Opportunities!

Service events happening throughout the months of April and May
Sponsored by the Harvard Club of Miami and the Harvard Black Alumni Society. Share your time and skills to volunteer with local organizations.

This April and May, Harvard alumni, friends and family are again invited to participate in Harvard’s fifth annual Global Month of Service.

Our energetic local alumni have organized projects in 15 non-profit organizations throughout our region, offering a plethora of opportunities to volunteer during the month of April and May.  Whatever your skill, and wherever your neighborhood, we’ve got a volunteer activity for you. Don't miss this chance to give back to your local community, while working alongside fellow alumni.

Please refer to the following list for an overview of participating organizations. To sign up for a volunteer opportunity, scroll down to the organization with which you'd like to volunteer, and click the "register" link to go to the registration page. Once you register, the event alumni coordinator will be in touch with further details.

We will arrange for volunteers to present in a panel format to select students at the school.  We will be selecting the top 25 students (grades, test scores, attendance, conduct, effort) from each grade level to assemble in the media center or auditorium to engage in the panel.  Suggested questions to cover are below: Why is attending college important? What does it take to be successful in college? Did your identity as a black man/woman complicate your college experience?  If so,  how?  Did it enhance your college experience?  If so, how? Would you recommend college to somebody who is not quite sure what they want to do with their future?  Why or why not? Is there anything that you wish you would have done differently to prepare yourself for college?  What is the most difficult aspect of college?  What is the most enjoyable?    After the panelists touch on these questions, we would like to open the floor to the students to ask their own questions.
